Silvia and Guillermo co-own and run a 4-hectare farm growing two main crops: coffee and dragonfruit.

Five years ago, while planning to plant more trees, Silvia discovered that her brother-in-law had some Pacamara seeds lying around — a gift from a neighbour that had long been forgotten. Curious to see what they could do with them, she and her husband started a nursery, knowing that the variety was highly sought after by certain buyers.

But finding that market proved more difficult than expected, and for two years they ended up selling their Pacamara into the commodity market. That changed when they met the Minga team. With feedback from our lab and some fine-tuning of their processing, their Pacamara found its way into the specialty market.

Today, the couple is continuing to work on improving their Castillo, with the aim of finding a better-paying market for this variety too.
